Meghan May writes article for β€˜Microbe’ about predicting emerging pathogens

An article written by Meghan May, Ph.D., associate professor of biomedical sciences in the 911±¬ΑΟΝψΊμΑμ½ν’s College of Osteopathic Medicine, was recently published in Microbe, a publication from the American Society for Microbiology.

The article, titled β€œAnalyzing Evolvability To Anticipate New Pathogens,” discusses why new diseases appear and whether scientists can predict what new diseases will come next. According to May, β€œFiguring out what comes next depends on understanding what makes infectious agents change to become more successful at infecting hosts, transmitting between hosts, and avoiding a host’s immune system.”
